The build up for the grand finale
Dear Lovers of Contemporary Music,
29th March 2011, 12.30h. This is the day we’ll meet up to listen to the Belgian pianist and composer Jean-Philippe Collard-Neven, who (being Belgian and thus small compared to "la Grande et Douce France") was obliged to add something extra to his name as, by pure chance, there happens to be a French guy with the same name who performs on the same instrument. One of the highlights of this lunchtime concert, besides there being lots of young people, will be the performance of all 3 piano pieces by the glorious Fafchamps. We are convinced that his music will follow a similar path as Scriabin's music.
That evening at 20.00h, in the same hall, we have the friendly French contemporary music ensemble Linea."Why them?" you ask. For the simple reason that they have a very close connection with Peter Eötvös: they recorded their latest CD with him (at his request) and together made up this extremely accessible programme.
Peter Eötvös, who you will know by now is an international star of contemporary music (as well as a really nice guy), will be giving master classes at the Royal Conservatories of Brussels. You will be able to witness the results at 19.00h on the 30th.
At 20.00h the Luxembourgians of Lucilin kick off, with our favourite Arne (cello-player-par-excellence-et-grace ) Deforce. The programme reeks of the old-style Ars Musica - even Georges is back in town. We swore last year we’d give it a try without him for once, but quality always drifts where the free wind blows.
Before we forget: there is as usual a lunch concert in the Royal Conservatory at 12.30h on 30th. The Goeyvaerts String Trio composed of three seriously serious musicians who will be performing one of the most hallucinogenic pieces of the 20th Century: a string trio by Nikolaj Korndorf. If you think it’ll be simple because it’s Russian, think again: this composer writes like Beethoven - Someday, somewhere, someone will actually be able to perform this...
See you then, all the best.
